Falcon Robotics finishes in top 10 at Robosub 16 competition

The week of July 22 – 29 Carl Hayden Falcon Robotics team went to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the AUVSI RoboSub 2013 competition for the third year. This year the team attended with the second version of the Sovereign Falcon to test some new and exciting design elements. It took a lot of preparation and determination out of the team this summer in order to have the robot ready to compete.

Robosub is a unique competition in which universities around the world participate in by building an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). The teams hard work paid off and they met their goal, which was to make it to the finals! They were extremely proud to receive eighth place out of 31 universities and two other high schools. The finals were played live on the AUVSI Robosub website where many supporters watched patiently.

The team checked into the Heritage Inn Hotel which is close to Mission Beach, a nice location but a little further from the Transdec facility where the competition was held. Their tent was between Harbin Engineering University (China) and Far Eastern Federal University (Russia) at the event. Throughout the event the robotics team members had a chance to talk about the AUV they constructed to many people who came by their tent and they also talked to several of the other teams who were from all over the world.
