The thought of joining a club can be a scary one, especially if you consider yourself to be more of an introvert than a social butterfly. And it is scary…but it has also become an essential aspect of a high school career. Many universities look for leadership experience through clubs such as Student Government, Be a Leader, Academic Decathlon, and many others.
Big name universities now expect there to be more to a future student than a high GPA. The clubs you join serve as a glimpse into who you are as a person. Colleges appreciate this and compare the applicants by, not only their grades, but their extra-curricular activities.
Not only that, but joining a club can do wonders for your social skills and public speaking abilities. Drama Club and Speech and Debate Club can give you the necessary skills to speak comfortably in front a crowd. This will come in handy when working on presentations.
Clubs also aid in your self discovery. Being a member of a club can allow you to realize what it is you want to do in life and what kind of a person you are. Clubs initiate your passion for certain things and can even set you on the path to a fulfilling career.
Clubs have developed from being fun hobbies into an essential part of a high school career. They are there to increase your probability in having success both in school and outside of school. Don’t deny yourself the opportunity of becoming a well-rounded person by not taking advantage of the clubs Carl Hayden has to offer.
