My View: Google+

GooglePlusSocial media groups are a big part of teenage life. Teens are constantly changing their preferences. MySpace was once very popular, but Facebook has taken over its throne. There are even some people who claim that Twitter will be the next heir. Others, however, are constantly saying that these social media groups ceased to entertain them. Perhaps it’s time they tried something new.

Google has many functions besides being a search engine for information. Google can also help you find find specific locations through Google Maps. However, few people know that it can  also be used as a social media site. Sure, there’s GMmil; we can communicate with others via email. There’s more to it than that.

On Facebook, people have their friends organized by alphabetical order. You can also place certain people in your “besties” group to be able to find them more easily. However, it’s still very tedious. Also, people who are not on Facebook claim that that site is full of fake people. They’re basically saying that people on Facebook are pretending to be something they’re not in order to have friends. This may be true, and people may feel insecure to post their real interests on Facebook. The whole point of social media sites is to express your opinions and interact with others, but that is not possible sometimes. Well, the solution to that problem is finally here!

On Google+ you can have people organized more easily. It holds groups such as “friends, acquaintances, and family.” You can even create your own “circles” and have things more personalized. You can also join “communities” that allow you to interact with others that have your same interests. There’s no need to hide anymore. Google+ also has games. All you need to have is an email address. If you don’t have one, making a Gmail account is as easy as pie.

I’m sure that Facebook has a lot of these things as well. However, Google Plus offers a more homey feeling. You can talk to people in other countries, people you’ve never met. Things are a lot more interesting that way. This may seem scary, but if you’re a good judge of character, you can avoid problems. Additionally, Google Plus has a very efficient security policy. You can report anyone who bothers you. Google Plus is as practical as Facebook. You can download the app and receive notifications on your phone or iPod.

I know this firsthand because I am on Google Plus. Other people there are trying to start a revolution and overpower Facebook. This might not be possible, but it doesn’t hurt to try. If you  think Google Plus is only for nerds, you might be right. It has often been referred to as Facebook for smart people.
