My View: Students can have different opinions

differencesStudents do not always agree. Everyone has different opinions: different tastes in music, books, and movies. However, students are constantly made fun of because of the things they like. This seems a little hypocritical, don’t you think?

The reason I chose to write this article is because I read about a 14-year-old boy who liked Justin Bieber. The boy was constantly teased, and he committed suicide. No one should have to go through bullying for being different.

Everyone, everyone, has different opinions. There is no such thing as normal in this world. Some people do not speak up about their interests for fear of being censured. They shy away from who they really are just to be accepted. It’s true that people don’t always agree, but you have to accept that it’s okay to be your own person.

The thing that makes me the maddest is the constant teasing. New trends are always being presented throughout the world. There was a time when Rap was the most popular music genre for teens. That has changed a bit. Everything changes. People get into the newest fad, and whoever doesn’t agree is weird. This seems a little crazy, considering how absorbed people were with the former popular thing. Well, that has changed, right? You have to get with the times and follow what everyone else does, right? No way.

If everyone was the same, the world would be downright boring. If everyone had the same opinions, there would be no new ideas and inventions. This part goes out to all the bullies: remember your precious Facebook? That thing that is more important than life itself? Yeah, well, without weird, crazy people there would be no Facebook. My point is that  we would not be where we are today without those weird “nerds” who dared to be different.

There is nothing wrong with standing out. The reason life is so fun is because we have variety in this world. If people always agreed, there would be nothing to argue about! Life would be dull and, well, it would be lifeless.

My fellow students, please remember that it’s okay to be different. Do not let others tell you what you should and shouldn’t like. No one should be able to dictate your life.. Remember to be yourself!
