What is your favorite color? Blue because it brings out my eyes.
What is one of the best days you will never forget in your life? The three days that I will never forget in my life are when I became a U.S. citizen and the day I graduated with my bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
What is the worst day you ever had? When I saw ASU beat U of A three games in a row on softball, which never happened in school history. I was broken.
What’s your favorite class? I love them all but my 6th hour, which  the majority are boys, and they’re all brainiacs.
Before being a teacher, what did you want to be? I was interested in medical school and becoming an immunologist to work on CDC.
If you could see anyone from the past that you miss a lot who would it be and why? I wish I could see my great grandmother because when she passed away, the wisdom that she gave me was enormous and it meant a lot to me.

Dolores Gavaldon-Martinez

How many years have you worked at Carl Hayden?  23 years.
What is a brief description of what you do? Work in the registration office directly with student transcripts and grades.
Why did you pick this job as your occupation? It was a better opportunity in the district at the same school.
What do you hope to accomplish or improve on this new year? I hope to complete my Associates Degree and then transfer to ASU for my bachelors in Business and Communications.
Over the years what changes have you seen in the school? I’ve seen new buildings, new generations and the changes within them.
During your spare time what are things you like to do? I like to be with family and friends. I also enjoy baking and watching baseball.

Patricia Banks, Community Liaison
How many years have you worked at Carl Hayden? 14 years in total
What is a brief description of what you do? “I basically represent the district, students, parents, families and the community by helping provide services for them and by finding help for them when they need it.”
Why did you pick this job as your occupation? “I picked this job because I lost my first job due to the technological advances of the time, and because I could be out of a typical classroom environment and work with everyone.”
What do you hope to accomplish or improve on this new year? “Continue to help others in the things I do, keeping my arms open for anyone that needs them and to continue improving on my job because there is always room for improvement.”
Over the years what changes have you seen in the school? “I see the school heading  in a new direction.  It is no longer the dumping ground for other schools.  The standards, sports, and magnet programs are expanding and improving.”
During your spare time what are things you like to do? “ I’m a busy bee; I’m always doing something.”

Aida Velez, Senior Office Assistant

How many years have you worked at Carl Hayden?  I’ve worked in the district for 22 years, but for 19 years at Carl Hayden.
What is a brief description of what you do? I am basically in charge of all major payrolls, including the teachers, tutoring, Saturday School as well as taking care of travel requests.
Why did you pick this job as your occupation? “I’ve had alot of jobs over the years, and I just wanted to be a secretary for an assistant.”
What do you hope to accomplish or improve on this new year? “I hope to find another district assistant job and to keep on improving in my current job.”
Over the years what changes have you seen in the school? “I’ve seen the building of the new administration office, the students are more respectful, friendly and smarter. Also, the hiring of a lot of young teachers.”
During your spare time what are things you like to do? “Running 10Ks, half-K marathons, hiking and exercising at the gym.”
